What is the Pensions Dashboard?
The UK Government is launching a free service that allows people to see their pensions in one place, including their State Pension. This will be a digital service through apps, websites, or other tools.
Pensions Dashboard will be used to search for records of all pension schemes. Pension savers will be able to find out which scheme they are a member of, and access their plan details.
Pensions that are already in payment will not show on the Pensions Dashboard.
What will the Pensions Dashboard do?
Reconnect people with any lost pensions
Show an estimated retirement income
Provide clear and simple pension information
Duties for scheme trustees
We’ll be writing to trustees in April, summarising that:
- Dashboard duties will apply to the trustees of relevant occupational trust-based schemes, with 100 or more active or deferred member as of the scheme year end between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024.
- Royal London will facilitate the connection of the parts of your scheme we hold in advance of your connect by date on your request.
- Trustees are responsible for notifying scheme members that Royal London will be processing their personal data for the dashboard connection.
- There’ll also be a requirement for trustees to provide regular reports to the regulator. This is to show that you’re meeting your Pensions Dashboard duties.
Find more information on the Pensions Dashboard, and your duties as a scheme trustee on The Pensions Regulator website (opens in a new window).
Please note that if your scheme is a ‘Pension Extra’ scheme originally sold through CIS then we are unable to connect your scheme to the Pensions Dashboard on your behalf due to the nature of the pension arrangement and because we don’t hold the required personal data for matching the members (i.e. National Insurance numbers and addresses).
To help you in your own connection journey, we will send you the value data required for the Pensions Dashboard on an annual basis with the member’s statements. If your scheme is deemed to be in scope for connection, you will then need to take your own steps to ensure you connect to the Pensions Dashboard and provide the required value data. Guidance on how to do this can be found on The Pensions Regulator website.
How do I opt in?
If you (a scheme trustee) would like to request Royal London connect you to the dashboard, please let us know.
We assume if we’ve not heard from you, that you do not need Royal London to connect your scheme.
You can still opt out after we’ve connected you to the dashboard. If you wish to, you must provide us with written notice. We’ll then take the next steps to action this.
Will Royal London charge a fee?
At the moment, we will not charge scheme trustees or members a fee for this service. However, Royal London reserves the right to charge trustees a fee for this service in the future on reasonable notice to the scheme trustees.
Where can I find out more information?
We’ll be writing to the trustees of the in-scope schemes we’ve identified in April 2025. Please refer to the letter for more information.
