Simple steps to stay safe online

At Royal London, we take your security seriously. We protect your information and money with strong security systems and safeguards, but scammers are always looking for new ways to trick you into giving away personal information or passwords. That’s why it’s so important to stay alert and know what to look out for.

Why cyber awareness matters

While your Royal London products and services are securely managed, scammers often target individuals directly using emails, phone calls, or fake websites to impersonate trusted organisations. Their goal? To gain access to your personal details or convince you to transfer money.

How to protect yourself

  1. Software updates often include important security fixes. Installing them promptly helps protect you from known threats. So next time your device prompts you to update, don’t hit ‘remind me later’. And better still, set them to update automatically.
  2. Use strong, unique passwords: Using the same password across multiple accounts puts you at risk. Try using a password manager to create and store strong, unique passwords for each account. Using three random words is a great way to create a strong password.
  3. Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA): MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second step, like a code sent to your phone, when logging in. It’s quick to set up and protects your account, even if your password is compromised.
  4. Backup your important files: Whether it’s family photos or key documents, regular backups mean you won’t lose everything if something goes wrong. Cloud storage or external drives are great options.
  5. Be careful with links and attachments: If an email or message looks suspicious, don’t click. Cyber criminals often use phishing to trick people into revealing personal details or downloading harmful software.

We’re in this together. We work hard behind the scenes to protect your information, but cyber security is a shared responsibility. By taking a few simple steps, you’re helping create a safer digital world for everyone.

Common scams to watch out for

Phishing emails or texts: These might look official and ask you to click on a link, open an attachment or provide sensitive information or passwords.
Fake phone calls: Someone may pretend to be from your bank or other financial organisation, urging you to act quickly. If a call is suspicious hang up.
Fraudulent websites & social media pages: These mimic trusted brands to steal personal details or money. They often include fake adverts to lure you in, check URLs carefully, watch for spelling mistakes, and avoid clicking suspicious links. Go directly to the official site instead.
Too good to be true offers: Like early access to your pension or high-return investments, usually with a catch.
