Royal London announces that its two longest-serving Non-Executive Directors, Ian Dilks OBE and Sally Bridgeland, retired from the Board on 31 December 2023.

Ian Dilks was appointed to the Board in November 2014, bringing significant audit, advisory and transaction support experience from roles with a wide range of major UK and international insurance groups. During his tenure, he served as our Senior Independent Director and chaired our Investment Committee.

Sally Bridgeland was appointed to the Board in January 2015, bringing extensive actuarial experience and pensions knowledge. As Chair of the With-Profits Committee, she played an important role in overseeing and supporting our Legacy Simplification programme – a project aimed at reducing complexity in our systems and processes to improve service, flexibility and certainty of estate distribution to long-standing customers.

From 1 January 2024, the consequential changes are as follows:

  • Tim Tookey has been appointed Senior Independent Director, subject to regulatory approval for this role. He has been a Board member since April 2020 and chairs the Audit Committee.
  • Nicky Richards, who was appointed to the Board in December 2023, has been appointed Chair of the Investment Committee.
  • Eithne McManus, who was appointed to the Board in April 2023, has been appointed Chair of the With-Profits Committee.

Kevin Parry OBE, Chairman of Royal London, said:

"I would like to thank Ian and Sally for their contribution and commitment during their time on our Board. They have been great stewards of Royal London, making significant contributions to the transformation of the business to the modern mutual it is today, including chairing various committees and acting as Board leads for key initiatives.

"I am delighted that Tim Tookey has agreed to become Senior Independent Director. Tim offers tremendous Board experience and financial services expertise, and I look forward to working closely with him.

"The With-Profits Committee and the Investment Committee are at the heart of our business, and I am delighted that we have recently appointed Eithne McManus and Nicky Richards, two professionals with highly relevant experience, to chair those committees."
