Because my mum and dad have lost their son, to everybody else their grief is more important than mine, having lost my brother. That infuriated me.

A Scottish mother of one, Nikki Dalgleish’s brother sadly passed away in May 2019, a loss that had a deep impact on her. When discussing her bereavement with others, Nikki found that it was often dismissed or seen as “less than” what her parents were going through and hopes that there can be more understanding in future about the weight of grief on siblings.

We just assume that losing a child is much harder than losing a brother.
