Mixed picture on consumer confidence

Reacting to the GfK consumer confidence index, Sarah Pennells, Consumer Finance Specialist at Royal London says:

“This is definitely a mixed picture, with people feeling more confident about some areas of their finances and less so about others. Although people are putting off big-ticket purchases, it’s encouraging that more consumers want to save. We know that many people who worked at home during the pandemic have been able to save more, but there are many others who have little by way of savings, and who would currently struggle if their bills rose suddenly or there was an unexpected expense.”
