Before you apply for our Stocks and Shares ISA
A stocks and shares ISA is designed for medium to long term investing – typically five years or more. You won’t pay income tax or capital gains tax on any profits or withdrawals.
Here are a few important things to know, you should read through steps 1, 2 and 3 before proceeding with your application.
Step 1: Make sure it’s right for you
Take a moment to check if our Stocks and Shares ISA is right for you.
- You need to be 18 or over and a UK resident.
- You can pay into more than one stocks and shares ISA per tax year.
- The total ISA allowance for the 2025/26 tax year is £20,000.
- If you’re contributing to other ISAs, make sure your total contributions don’t exceed the annual limit - if you do, you could end up paying tax on the excess.
- As your money is invested, the value of your ISA could go down as well as up and you could get back less than you paid in.
- It's important you understand the charges you’ll pay. Visit our charges webpage to learn more.
- Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and could change.
