Royal London United Assurance Special Situations Life Fund – June 2025
Royal London Asset Management has let us know that it intends to close its Royal London UK Opportunities strategy as it has been underperforming the market benchmark for an extended period. As a result, we’ve had to make changes to the strategy of the Royal London United Assurance Special Situations Life Fund.
When will the changes take place?
We’ll implement the change to strategy from the week of 30 June 2025. As we work through system updates, it’s possible that for a short period you get communications from us referencing the existing name of the strategy rather than the new strategy name.
What’s changing?
Following a review of alternative UK equity strategies available from Royal London Asset Management, we’re changing the strategy of the fund. It will now invest in a wider mix of UK companies, rather than focusing on a smaller group. This broader approach aims to give the investment more opportunities for growth while continuing to target the same benchmark — the FTSE All Share Index, which is a common way to measure how UK equity funds are performing. As part of this change, we’ll also update some of the details of the fund. The table below gives a summary of these.
Exisiting Strategy | New Strategy | |
Fund Name | RL United Assurance Special Situations Life Fund | RL United Assurance UK Equity Life Fund |
Aim | To take advantage of exceptional opportunities for short term capital growth by the active management of a relatively concentrated portfolio, largely in the UK. | The fund is designed to outperform its benchmark. |
Investment Process | This concentrated, “best ideas” UK equity fund takes high conviction stock and sector positions based on the fund manager's top down market view, with a strong emphasis on earnings momentum. | The fund invests in shares of UK companies from all economic sectors. The main emphasis will be on shares in companies quoted on the London Stock Exchange. The core of this fund is invested in a FTSE 350 Tracker fund with the remainder being invested in other actively managed UK equity funds. |
