What is Royal London’s Members’ Assembly?
Royal London's Members' Assembly gives our members an opportunity to help shape how we invest their money.
It brings members together to learn about and discuss important issues, consider different perspectives and make recommendations to our business.
The Assembly is just one of the ways we listen to members and understand their views on what’s important to them. As a customer-owned business, this really matters to us.
In this video, you can watch Joanna Walker, Group Director of Responsible Business, explain more about the Members' Assembly.

What matters to our customers? It's a question that shapes the decisions my team and I make every day. And Royal London's first-ever Members' Assembly is all about giving our customers a bigger voice in shaping our business and how we invest.
In early 2027, we will bring together a diverse and representative group of about 50 members to listen to their views on the role that Royal London, as a customer-owned business, should play in investing customers' money responsibly.
Over two weekends, they will listen to different perspectives from experts and from each other, ask questions, and deliberate and work through complex topics like climate change or artificial intelligence. By working together, they will develop recommendations for Royal London to consider and respond to.
We are already taking action to ensure that we are investing and operating responsibly, and championing positive change across society.
Our Climate Transition Plan maps how we are responding to climate change, such as through engaging with the companies we invest in and advocacy with policymakers.
We also have partnerships with charitable organisations like Turn2us who are helping to build financial resilience across society.
As a customer-owned business, what matters to our customers matters to us. And so our Members' Assembly provides an opportunity for us to understand what our customers think when they've had the time and the space to wrestle with these complex topics and choices.
It sits alongside other ways that we listen to our customers, such as our surveys, focus groups, and, of course, our Annual General Meeting.
We're committed to strengthening our customers' voices, ensuring that they play a part in shaping the future of Royal London. I'm really looking forward to sharing what we learn from our first Members' Assembly in the coming months.
What does the Members' Assembly involve?
We've invited a representative group of members to join our first Members’ Assembly in early 2027. We want to find out what they think we should be doing to invest their savings responsibly – for example, by considering environmental and social issues.
Over two weekends in London (23-24 January 2027) and in Manchester (6-7 February 2027), they will have the chance to:
- learn more about responsible investment – including from expert speakers
- share their own views
- help develop recommendations for Royal London to consider.
How is this different from our AGM?
Our Members’ Assembly helps to inform the decisions our business makes – but it doesn’t replace our AGM or any other formal governance processes.
The Members’ Assembly provides the chance to engage with us on a chosen theme. We select a balanced group of participants that reflects our membership.
We’ll continue to hold an AGM each year, in line with our Articles of Association – giving members the opportunity to vote on key resolutions, and to engage directly with our Board and executive leaders. We'll also continue engaging with customers throughout the year, such as through surveys and focus groups.
What happens next?
We'll be sharing updates in the lead up to the Members' Assembly on this page.
We'll also share insights after the Members' Assembly has taken place - including how we're responding to members' recommendations.
