Our flagship charity partnership

""

We’ve developed our first social impact flagship partnership, with national charity Turn2us, to help more people prevent a life shock from becoming a crisis.

We all face unexpected shocks at one point or another, from being made redundant or coping with an illness, to losing a loved one. These events can often have a big impact on our finances and, particularly for those who are financially vulnerable, can quickly turn into a full-blown crisis.

One in three UK adults say they wouldn’t be able to manage without their income, or cope in the event of a life shock. That’s 17.6 million people. The Covid-19 pandemic is perhaps the biggest life shock our society has experienced. As we continue to feel its effects, there’s never been a more urgent need to help those who are financially vulnerable.

Did you know?

Around 22% of UK adults have less than £100 in savings and investments, while 63% of people don't feel they can determine what happens in their lives when it comes to money.

We’re stronger together

At Royal London, we believe we’re mutually responsible for the wellbeing of our customers, their families and their communities. Through our products and services, and our social impact commitments, we’re already helping our customers to make sure they can prevent life shocks from becoming a crisis, and we do all we can to support them through difficult times. But we want to do more. We want to reach more people who need help and make a longer-lasting impact – and we’ve always believed we’re stronger when we work together.

Collaborating with Turn2us is an incredible opportunity to help tackle an urgent problem facing our society today and use our strengths as a business to create long-term change. The partnership will create strategic opportunities for us to learn, campaign and innovate with a charity at the forefront of the fight against UK poverty.

Turn2us are experts on tackling financial resilience issues. They support over 11 million people each year by providing guidance and support, online tools and financial relief to people in crisis.

Together, we aim to help build a society where everyone has the tools, support and resilience they need to recover from a life shock.

Voiceover: We're proud to announce our first flagship partnership with Turn2us, a charity at the forefront of the fight against UK poverty.

Together, we aim to help build a society where everyone has the tools, support, and resilience they need to recover from a life shock. This is an incredible opportunity to tackle an urgent problem facing our society today and for Royal London to work with a charity who already supports over 11 million people across the UK each year.

Thomas Lawson: By working collaboratively with Royal London, we really can affect change at a greater scale. At Turn2us we recognise the strength and value in working with people with real life experience of financial hardship, as well as with other charities, government and companies.

We believe in working directly with people, both Turn2us services and Royal London customers to co-design solutions that meet their needs. This commitment to collaboration is at the heart of the way we work and it's exciting we are able to bring this into our partnership with Royal London.

Nadia Al Yafai: Everything we do at Royal London is guided by our purpose and our social impact activities are no different. We believe that all of us have a responsibility, not just to our customers, but also to our wider society. We want to use our strengths and work together with others to make a positive difference, truly demonstrating the power of a mutually responsible collaboration.

Barry O'Dwyer: This offers us a unique opportunity to make a positive, long lasting impact on people's lives.

Voiceover: The focus of this partnership is to support people who experience a life shock to keep their heads above water and to help prevent that from becoming a crisis. We all face unexpected life shocks at some point or another, and they can often have a big impact on our finances and wellbeing.

One in three UK adults say they wouldn't be able to cope financially in the event of a life shock, that's 17.6 million people. And now, as we face the COVID-19 global pandemic, a life shock that's affected every one of us, there has never been a more urgent time to support those who are financially vulnerable, which we've seen could happen to anyone at any time.

Thomas Lawson: Our collaboration has come at a pivotal time for the charity, as we embark on our new strategy and purpose. We have ambitious goals, but we can't wait to start.

Barry O'Dwyer: Working with Turn2us will give us the chance to better support our customers, their families, and their communities. As well as helping more vulnerable people across the UK. We're really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
