Could your family afford your funeral?
Could your family pay for your funeral?
In 2017, the average funeral cost in the UK was £3,784 according to The Royal London National Funeral Cost Index Report 2017. Our funeral cost report notes that in the face of continued pressure on budgets and availability of burial plots burial costs continue to rise because of plot shortages.
1 in 7 families struggle to pay for a funeral for a loved one, with a record level of ‘funeral poverty’ debt setting a new record of more than £160m (up from around £150 million last year) in the UK. Of the 16% that struggled to pay for a funeral, customers took on an average debt of £1,680. It’s a burden carried by family members at a time when they are least able to cope, emotionally and financially.
The report sheds particular light on the issue of funeral poverty, and the large numbers of people in the UK who get into financial difficulty as a result of paying for a funeral, or who cannot afford to pay for a funeral at all.
