Royal London One-Day Cup - Kids Go Free
Tuesday July 22, 2014
Royal London, The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and First Class Counties have joined forces to make free tickets available for children at selected Royal London One-Day Cup matches this summer.
The ‘Kids Go Free’ initiative will offer free entry to a total of 28 matches (as of 25/1/2017 no longer available) in the competition to any child attending with a paying adult.
The promotion is a continuation of an ECB initiative from last year which was designed to encourage more youngsters to watch live cricket at their local county during the school holidays.
‘Kids Go Free’ starts on the opening day of the competition on Saturday 26th July when Derbyshire host Hampshire at the 3aaa County Ground and last year’s finalists Glamorgan welcome Middlesex to the Swalec Stadium. It continues throughout the summer up to Wednesday 20th August when Surrey take on Somerset at the Kia Oval.
A full list of matches available can be found at www.ecb.co.uk/kidsgofree (as of 25/1/2017 no longer available)
Rupert Pennant-Rea, Chairman of Royal London, said: “Cricket has always played a big part in many children’s summer holidays and Royal London is keen to help encourage more children to enjoy the benefits of this great sport. We are pleased to be supporting the ‘Kids Go Free’ promotion as a wonderful opportunity to get more youngsters watching live cricket and inspiring them to play.”
Brian Havill, ECB Acting Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to once again offer an opportunity for young people to experience cricket this summer. It’s a great chance for parents and grandparents, whose children are interested in the game to get down and support their local County in the Royal London One-Day Cup.”
The Royal London One-Day Cup is a new-look 50-over domestic competition in which the 18 First Class Counties are divided into two groups of nine and compete for a place in a Lord’s final. The top four from each group will qualify for the Quarter-Finals between 26th & 29th August, with the Semi-Finals taking place on the 4th & 6th September. The Road to Lord’s then reaches its climax at the Home of Cricket on Saturday 20th September.
